The Ashford Cultural and Community Center

Pierce County and FUN, The Friends of the Upper Nisqually, (501c3) have partnered to create a 13,000 sq./ft, 400 seat multi-use building and attached outdoor amphitheater located in the county-owned 29-acre “Ashford Park”, adjacent to the Gateway community of Ashford in the Upper Nisqually valley near the Entrance to Mt. Rainier National Park.

The stage serving 1000 people in the Outdoor Amphitheater is designed to rotate to become a 400 seat indoor theater as weather and seasons change.

This facility represents the second phase of development for the park, which is now in permit review. (Pierce County has committed $900,000) The core value of this effort is the development and implementation of a visitor destination facility designed to provide a year-round venue for concerts and live theater, meeting rooms for Corporate retreats, community functions and National Park Service Interpretive programs. The extensive grounds will accommodate up to 4 weddings a day during the summer as well as provide hiking and biking trails and Public restrooms.

The Ashford Community Park and Performing Arts Center, once in place, will allow year around, 7 day a week, activities. It will serve as a catalyst to attract more restaurant, retail and cultural related investment, provide stable employment opportunities, and transform Ashford into the Gateway Village Center the nearly 2 million visitors to the Mount Rainier National Park expect and deserve.

Imagine spending a day on the Mountain, followed by an excellent dinner, an evening of theater, music, and dance, followed by a hot tub in the cool night air and a night of blissful sleep in one of the areas hideaway cabins and lodges. Imagine waking up to gentle snowfall out your cabin window.

Ground breaking for the The Ashford Community Park and Performing Arts Center is set for spring of 2008. Thank you for your help in making The Ashford Community Park and Performing Arts Center a reality
