| Shed your blues and rock for the rock! Put on your dancin' shoes and join us for a weekend of music at Mt. Rainier, a benefit concert weekend. . .
Flood damage at Mt. Rainier National Park on November 6, 2006 caused closure of the National Park. Shortly after, "Bluesman of the Year" Randy Oxford and Phil Freeman, owner of Copper Creek Inn at Mt. Rainier, began organizing a weekend of music to benefit the National Park, the "Mount Rainier Gateway Initiative" to preserve the scenic corridor to the National Park Entrance, and the Ashford Community Park and Performing Arts Center project. Congress is acting quickly to provide emergency funding to repair and replace washed out roads, utilities and damaged treatment systems. Music for the Mountain is a proceeds benefit to raise money for trail restoration and other activities not funded by Congress. Trail restoration normally is funded from Entrance Fees at the gate which stay in the park. Music for the Mountain proceeds will help replace entrance fees lost since the park closed to vehicular traffic last November. Music for the Mountain proceeds will also benefit the Nisqually Land Trusts "Mt. Rainier Gateway Initiative" to purchase, at fair market value, timberlands in the scenic viewshed along the corridor of scenic highway 706 E, "the Road to Rainier". Your contribution to Music for the Mountain will provide the matching funds essential to obtaining the grant monies used to purchase the timberlands which will be managed to provide continued wildlife habitat and preservation of the scenic beauty of the "Road to Rainier". Mount Rainier National Park, the number 1 tourist destination in Washington State, is served by the small community of Ashford. The Mt Rainier National Park and the Ashford valley are within 1 to 3 hours of two thirds of the population of Washington State and Oregon's largest city, Portland. Music for the Mountain proceeds will help obtain matching funds to complete the construction of the Ashford Community Park and Performing Arts Center. The Performing Arts Center will provide a venue for music year around for the enjoyment of visitors to the mountain staying at the National Park and the Hotels, Motels and cabins in the Ashford Valley. The performing arts center features an outdoor Amphitheater with a stage which will rotate inside to a 400 person theatre in times when weather prohibits outdoor performances. It will also provide a park with hiking and biking trails, public restrooms and an excellent venue for weddings, corporate retreats, community meetings and activities. Thank you for helping Mt. Rainier National Park, Gateway Initiative and the Community Park and Performing Arts Center. Enjoy the Music! |
